THE PROCESS

MIXING

A host of software and techniques are used to make your songs sound clearer, non-abrasive, fuller, spacious, warmer and much louder in volume. Surgical EQ-ing, “Linear Phase Equalization”, which adds a level of clarity other EQ’s can not, and select multi-band compressing, help bring to life to a previously dull track.

MIXDOWN

We strive to achieve a clean mix where each element in the song occupies its own space. Perfecting each part by EQ-ing and compressing piece by piece, helps everything fit tightly together. The goal during a mixdown, is to achieve a clean low end, a punchy mid range, and a high end that sparkles with clarity.

NOTE: When sending tracks for mixdown, please bounce each part (i.e. kick drum, bass, vocals) separately. You may send the parts of your track on multiple CD’s or a DVD. A mailing address will be provided for you.

NOISE REDUCTION AND CLEANING
Removal of unwanted hiss and background noise. Removal of pops, clicks, rumble, digital spikes.
EQUALIZATION
Highlighting select frequencies to bring life and presence to the music
COMPRESSION
Suppressing the dynamics to make it feel tighter and to help control irregular volume levels.
LOUDNESS MAXIMIZATION
Boosting the overall volume of the music to its max without distortion

Above is an example of a before and after mastered track. On the left is the original wav file. On the right is the same file after being mastered. A significant increase in volume has been achieved. Though the mastered waveform is pushed very hard there is absolutely no distortion.

NOTE: Please keep in mind mastering can only improve a good product. It can not fix poor mixes, mushy tracks or bad arrangements. I. e. if the kick drum sounds great but the bassline is very muddy, there will be issues getting them both to sound good together in the mix.
